Who we are
Donard Digital is a digital marketing agency based in Newcastle, Co. Down, run by Mark Smyth. In this policy, “we” and “us” means Donard Digital. We decide how the personal information described here is used, which makes us the “controller” under UK data protection law.
Questions about this policy or your information go to hello@donarddigital.com.
What we collect
When you fill in a form. The audit form asks for your name, business name, email address, phone number (optional), website (optional), what you would like us to look at and anything else you choose to tell us. The question form asks for your name, email address, phone number and business name (both optional) and your question.
When you email us. Whatever you include in the email, including your email address.
When you browse the site, only if you accept cookies. Information about how you use the site, such as the pages you visit, roughly where you are, the device and browser you use, and whether you arrived from one of our ads. See Cookies below.
Every visit. Our hosting provider keeps short-term technical records, such as your IP address and the pages requested, to run the site securely.
We do not ask for sensitive information, and we do not sell personal information.
How we use it, and why we are allowed to
- To reply to you and carry out your free audit. You asked us to, so we rely on taking steps at your request before any agreement, and on our legitimate interest in answering enquiries.
- To work with you if you become a client. Needed to carry out our agreement with you.
- To understand how the site is used and how our ads perform. Only with your consent, given by pressing Accept on the cookie notice.
- To keep the site secure and working. Our legitimate interest in running a safe website.
- To meet legal duties, such as keeping tax and accounting records.
We will not add you to a mailing list or send you marketing emails unless you ask us to.
Who we share it with
We only share information with services that help us run the business, and only what they need:
- Netlify hosts this website and receives what you send through our forms.
- Our email provider holds the emails we send and receive.
- Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads and Google Tag Manager) and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) receive browsing information, only if you accept cookies.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Information that leaves the UK
Some of these services are based in, or store information in, the United States. Where that happens they protect it with safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the UK’s approved contract clauses.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries and audits that do not lead to work together: up to two years from our last contact, then deleted.
- Client records: for as long as we work together, then for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting.
- Analytics information: Google Analytics keeps it for up to 14 months.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your information
- stop or limit how we use it, or object to us using it
- send your information to you or another organisation in a common format
Where we rely on your consent, such as for cookies, you can withdraw it at any time. Email hello@donarddigital.com and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. When you first visit, a notice asks whether you accept analytics and advertising cookies. Until you press Accept, they stay switched off. Declining does not stop any part of the site from working.
If you accept, these may be set:
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga, _ga_… | Google Analytics | Counts visits and shows how the site is used | 2 years |
| _gcl_au | Google Ads | Shows whether a visit came from one of our Google ads | 3 months |
| _fbp | Meta | Shows whether a visit came from one of our Facebook or Instagram ads, and lets us show ads to past visitors | 3 months |
Whatever you choose, the site remembers your choice in your browser so it does not ask again on every page. That is stored as dd_cookie_consent until you clear your browser’s data.
When you send one of our forms, a copy of your answers is kept in that browser tab for a moment so the thank-you page can show them back to you. It never leaves your device and is deleted as soon as it has been shown.
Changing your mind. Select Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to see the notice again. You can also delete cookies in your browser’s settings.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
